During the 6th International Deer Biology Congress (Prague, Czech Republic, August 2006), a Huemul Conservation Working Group Meeting was held. The 24 participants recommended that a special effort, incorporating a scientifc committe, may be needed to advance with huemul recovery.
This resulted in the formation of a Huemul Task Force under IUCN-SSC, which incorporates the
Huemul Scientific Committee:
